Omer Clyde Aderhold was born in Lavonia, Ga. on Nov. 7, 1899. He graduated from the University of Georgia in 1923 and received a master's degree from the University of Georgia in 1938. He went on to receive his Ph.D. from Ohio State in 1938. Aderhold joined the faculty of UGA in 1929 as associate professor of education. In 1946 he became dean of the College of Education.
